Little Burstead Village Hall

  • The Monday meetings start at 12:00 and continue until around 14:00. For this term's schedule, see the Calendar. There is a 30-minute break mid-way for tea and biscuits / cakes / lunch.

  • The venue - Little Burstead Village Hall, Laindon Common Road, Billericay, CM12 9SY - can be found by following this link.

  • Parking is a bit tight, and is only allowed on the road outside the hall if wheels don't touch the pavement. However, there are parking opportunities nearby and parking in Broomhills chase over the road is the safer option.

  • The "mission Statement" says we're Grades I-V, but this isn't rigorously enforced. There's at least one Grade VI. However, the ambiance is definitely informal and if you're a really serious musician, you might be better off trying one of the orchestras on the useful links page.

  • However, if (for instance) you played an instrument at school and haven't had the opportunity to play since - and would like to have a go in a setting less forbidding than a full orchestra - then this is your opportunity.

  • Numbers vary, but we have currently around two flutes, one clarinet, one oboe, one trumpet, two violins, two cellos and a double-bass, with the Director playing the continuo to keep us together - not an easy task! It's not sufficient to play the right notes in the right order ... you have to play them at the same time too, which is what gives ensemble playing that extra edge.

  • We are, as they say, "of all ages".

  • Fees depend on numbers, but are set at £41 for the current term.

  • Our wide repetiore consists of sympathetic arrangements of well-known melodies from Bach to The Beetles.

  • We give occasional performances by invitation, and in the recent past have played at a church in Basildon, for a Charitable Trust, at a Country Park Visitors' Centre and at a Regatta.
